Job Description

This job role will be in India

 

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Steam Turbine Technical Authority (TA) is ultimately responsible for technical integrity of Steam Turbine assets and compliance with corporate and international standards or guidelines. The Steam Turbine TA will provide advisory, diagnosis, root cause analysis services, supporting Predictive Analytics and Diagnostics solution while proposing existing or new solutions as required.

The TA will set the asset strategy, policies, procedures and standards of best practice for the Steam Turbines. They are accountable for technical support, quality & risk management and life cycle cost optimization, working closely with partners in CTO and BD.

 

Engineering Support

  • Provide advice and support to power plant engineering and performance assurance teams.
  • Provide oversight on integrity risks related to steam turbines and associated systems. 
  • Provide support to Reliability of Supply team by creating & reviewing mitigation checklists for critical equipment based on FMEA risks and sign off maintenance strategy modifications.
  • Work & Collaborate with MPC to provide support on unexpected deviations in process parameters, diagnosing potential issues accordingly.
  • Routinely visit installations to gain an understanding and clarification of the issues that may have arisen on Steam Turbines and related systems.
  • Participate, when appropriate, and contribute to near miss investigations by providing the technical expertise in the discipline.
  • Identifying long term solutions for assigned tasks related to reliability issues that are deemed safety critical / urgent / high value to key stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and training on the specific asset category where required.
  • Participate in the relevant network groups and provide guidance on best practices. Ensure REX/lessons learned are implemented.
  • Advises based on quantitative evidence or advice from vendor/ experts or others. Providing consultation and problem solving to NOMAC personnel on Steam Turbine problems and provide recommended course of action.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting, data review and trend monitoring, historical trend reviews, event follow-up, root cause analysis to support plant maintenance strategies.
  • Provide information and training for operations and sharing of lessons learned with internal peers.
  • Provide support for maintenance budget creation at plant sites and estimations for BD team during bid preparation phase.
  • Work & Collaborate with other technical teams to address business challenges.
  • Must leverage industry experience, equipment knowledge, software know-how, to support world class predictive analytics and monitoring solutions.
  • Acts as a resource for others in solution design.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for equipment related to steam turbine systems.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and implement appropriate plans and solutions to drive ongoing improvement of asset/system reliability within power & water sites.

Risk Identification and Mitigation 

  • Ensure steam turbine risks are identified and mitigated to ensure safe and reliable operation of assets.
  • Develop and maintain the overall risk register the on the Steam Turbines.
  • Approve key engineering changes to critical assets to ensure design integrity.
  • Identify vendors with equipment causing continued reliability issues.
  • Lead or support RCAs where Steam Turbine equipment may have an impact on reliability and ensure the operational loss register is used as a trigger for RCAs.

Projects

  • Review of Owner Technical Specification (OTS) and incorporation of lessons learned.
  • To review the design and technical documentation on steam turbine systems and axillary equipment and provide recommendations.
  • To review the high level engineering documentation during bid submission and provide comments.
  • To perform site due diligence visits as necessary and provide comprehensive reports.
  • To review Long Term Services and Parts Agreement with turbine manufacturer’s and provide recommendations and participate in meetings as required.
  • To prepare the steam turbine maintenance costing for bid submission as per the requirement
  • Review and validate Vendor/OEM Listing for new projects.
  • Provide ad hoc support to Project Execution Office and BD teams on new projects.
  • Provide input to HAZOP’s and HAZID’s and design review process.
  • Be responsible for providing technical approval for asset specific plant or process changes / modification.
  • Be responsible for review and approval of Safety System Changes within their discipline.

Technical Expertise

  • Act as centre of expertise providing in-depth technical knowledge on power / water Steam Turbines, using that knowledge to design and implement solutions to improve the plant efficiency and reliability in the long term.

Policies, Processes, Systems & Procedures

  • The Technical Authority shall define asset integrity standards at NOMAC corporate level and ensure risks related to Steam Turbines that may have gone unforeseen are identified and mitigated.
  • Identification and compliance with applicable international standards and best practice.
  • Development & sign-off of local standards and guidelines as required.
  • Ensuring that the technical content of procedures and guidelines are up to date and technically sound.
  • Review, witness and sign-off of acceptance (ITP) test criteria and provide input to the Owner Technical Specification (OTS) for Steam Turbines
  • Develop the standard for test and inspection of Steam Turbines and implement fleet wide.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities of improvement and contribute to organisational and departmental change initiatives, programmes and projects taking into account best practice and standards in the business environment.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the department to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude.

Related Assignments

  • Perform any other duties which the line manager may require to be carried out.

Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA or B. S. Degree in electrical engineering studies,

Minimum Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in the field with high focus on plant reliability.
  • Detailed knowledge and excellent understanding of: Power generation O&M, Asset Lifecycle Management.
  • World class knowledge of asset specific design, construction, operation and failure modes.
  • Member of Engineering institute.

Skills:

  • Extensive experience of technical report writing.
