Application Engineer

2. JOB PURPOSE:

Key responsibilities for this role are to provide technical expertise pertaining to application engineering for Solar PV Robotic Cleaning Technology. To assist in preparation and finalization of required technical solutions as part of the requisition process while interfacing with the customer (Project Company and/or EPC) and commercial teams of SOLMAC and both shareholders (as the case maybe).

4. Key Accountabilities

Strategy & Plans

§ Contribute to the execution of Company strategy in line with the functional strategy to ensure vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing departments.  

§ Regularly report to GM Robotics on the activities of the assigned work, challenges and issues faced, mitigation plan, etc. as required, to keep them informed and updated on the activities.

People Management

§ If assigned, manage the effective achievement of the team’s objectives through setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing the team and providing formal and informal feedback to maximise overall performance, engagement and motivation.

Budget Management

§ Contribute to the preparation of the department’s budget and monitor the financial performance against the budget so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, rectified promptly and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalised upon.

Essential Responsibilities

§ Understand the detailed scope of work & technical specifications, assist in preparing proposals etc., to ensure all the techno-commercial specifications are understood and discussed, keeping in mind the best interest of the company.

§ Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions (configuration, specification, clarifications etc.) as part of the ITO (Inquiry to Order) or requisition process while interfacing with cross-functional teams.

§ Technical analysis of client need: definition and optimization of the product; scope (description); schedule; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures.

§ Documentation of technical specifications & costing elements for further contract execution phases.

§ This also includes OTR (Order to Remittance) part where work on implementing and customizing the product/offering and executing it for specific client needs may be required.

§ Support Business Verticals in creating and reviewing (in conjunction with the leadership team) technical solutions as part of the ITO/OTR process, ensuring that solutions are technically fit for purpose and that technical risk is understood and managed with contingencies identified.

§ Co-ordinate and support external client meetings and resolve technical queries and issues (including clarification and exception for the bid specification).

§ Continuous improvement of proposal basics with feed-back from execution and cost reduction actions.

§ Ensure proper documentation management of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering process.

§ Assist in the development of technical and financial proposals based on the documentation, inputs and feedback received from various stakeholders, to ensure alignment with the requirements while adhering to quality standards.

§ Highlight the key risks, opportunities, recommended equipment partners and contractors, risk mitigation strategies, cost-benefit analyses etc., to ensure all the key elements are raised and discussed in a timely and efficient manner. 

§ Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches /programs to pursue.

§ Lead the communication of technical information with suppliers and partners through meetings and presentations.

§ Deliver on agreed KPIs and objectives.

§ Drive lean mind set to provide optimum technical solutions for the projects.

§ Identify technical risks and put in place the mitigation plan.

§ Foster relationship with other business entities/functions to maximize benefits of synergies.

§ Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders for inputs, assumptions, suggestions, lessons learned and feedback and compile all requisite documentation, agreements and internal approvals and other related activities, in order to ensure that the data and relevant documentation is accurate.

§ If required, perform site due diligence visits as necessary and provide comprehensive reports to the respective stakeholders

§ Assist in coordinating with various functions/ teams, contractors, partners, etc. as required, for their feedback & assumptions and compile the required information and documentation to assist in proposal development.

§ Whenever assigned, attend meetings at various locations (in different countries) on a short notice to participate in the project discussions.

§ Contribute to the development and implementation of department policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of department activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service.

5. COMMUNICATION & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:

Working closely with CEO SOLMAC, GM Robotics, GM Innovation, BD, Finance, Performance Assurance, Supply Chain, Legal, HSSE and Operations team

External:

Working closely with Chinese shareholder Technical teams, ACWA Power Project Co., TPE, BD, suppliers, contractors, and other OEM/service providers etc.

6. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

§ Bachelor’s degree holder in Electrical, Mechanical, Instruments & Controls or Mechatronics Engineering

Minimum Experience:

§ 6 to 8 years’ experience preferably in the Power & Water sector with 2 to 3 years of Project Engineering experience and 3 to 4 years of hands-on O&M experience in power industry

§ Good depth and breadth of knowledge and exposure to Power industry with a very good understanding of power plant automation

Skills:

§ Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

§ Self-reliant and autonomous with capability to take decision within the responsibility and competence area

§ Possesses a deep understanding of power generation markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies.

§ Ability to work through complex problems and quickly identify solutions within given time constraints.

§ Strong technical and analytical skills.

§ Ability to work in a matrix, goal-driven organizations and ability to multi-task on a variety of projects to strict time scales.

§ Quickly identify best practices and apply them within the team.

§ Commercial awareness to also consider non-technical boundary conditions.

§ A pro-active high achiever with high energy levels, who is used to working under pressure and to tight/challenging deadlines

§ Understanding of technical, legal and project finance knowledge is preferable
