Job Description
- One of the basic rules and responsibilities of Mechanical Technician is to properly carry out orders and instructions. All work instructions must be understood. If there is doubt, ask for explanation and repetition to avoid errors.
- Analyze, troubleshoot and determine causes of equipment failures and pinpoint the defects. Don’t use the words “maybe” or “it can be”. Be specific and accurate and don’t give mistakes a chance.
- Do major repairs and overhauling of all mechanical plant equipment and machineries. Train lower mechanical craftsman in the various aspects of maintenance by demonstrating new techniques and methods on repair works.
- Act as a team leader in group work activities, plan for direct checks, and supervise work of teammates. Be for the safety of men and cleanliness of work area. Always apply and exercise “NO PERMIT, NOT WORK” policy for safety of personnel and equipment.
- In performing corrective actions, read carefully and understand the defect, perform 360 degree turn around on the equipment, think, observe, double check the isolation, KKS number of equipment compared to your order and permit, before executing the job. Never change the position of the valve, and always check the assistance of operation.
- If in doubt in facing an unfamiliar maintenance procedure, ask for assistance. Major shutdowns have occurred and equipment has been damaged when the Technician thought that he could do it alone. Don’t guess. Always seek advice from your supervisor and manager.
- Be observant. If unsure, get more experienced person, co-worker, supervisors, or manager to give better explanation. Keep notes to serve as reminder. Revise and update your notes. Memory sometimes fails, and clearly written notes or records can always be used as a reference to refresh our memory.
- Use proper precision tools in performing maintenance work, and maintain accuracy on “as found as” left data in the form to serve as history of equipment for future reference; non-substantial and incomplete data and document attached on work orders are not acceptable for closing the job.
- During ON CALL situations, gather information promptly, and make sure orders are accurate, easily understood and specific. Reacting accordingly can make the difference in continuous availability of plant operation.
Skills
- Vocational or Technical course graduate, specializing in Automotive Technology, Machine Shop Technology or equivalent 2 years in Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of basic mechanical or workshop safety, computer literate.
- Knowledge of basic piping drawings, symbols and schematic diagrams.
- At least 5 years related work experience in power, construction or industrial plant involving maintenance of mechanical equipment (pumps, valves & pipings, gearboxes, lubrication and hydraulic systems, internal combustion engines, air compressors and other auxiliary equipment)
- Skills in using precision measuring instruments, welding and fabrication skills, sheet metal/bench metal working skills, piping layout and fittings, lifting and rigging skills.
