Job Description
The Boiler expert provides expert engineering advice and input into all facets of the Boiler and Pressure parts system, so as to facilitate the power station meeting relevant production and business plan targets.
Challenges include the maintaining of an ageing asset to reduce unplanned outages and generation losses which impact on commercial availability to meet customer energy demands.
Reliability of Supply Improvements
- Lead the Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis
- Predicting/diagnosing reliability of supply issues using predictive analytics, Engineering risk assessments and RCAs.
- Leading investigation and proposing solutions.
Engineering Reviews
- Support O&M Bid preparations
- Review Vendor selection and Qualification
- Lead the design reviews/validation of plant modifications/betterments
Engineering Support
- Oversee the execution of solutions impacting Reliability
- Conduct RCAs for large failures or with link to reliability of supply
- Expert Advice
Sharing Expertise
Participate in the relevant network groups and provide guidance on best practice
Specializations
- Asset management and maintenance of large utility boilers/pressure parts
- Expertise in all minor and major overhauls relating to boilers
- Detailed experience in testing, commissioning of large capacity utility boilers using diversified fuels (Oil, gas, coal etc.)
- Detailed knowledge and demonstrated application of life maintenance planning and total maintenance cost management of boilers, including whole of life budgeting
- Conversant with various piping design codes and practices as per ASME codes and standards
Management Reporting
Review performance reports to provide accurate and timely information to Engineering Director and Company Management to effectively manage the business.

Ensure the implementation of department policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of department activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities of improvement and contribute to organizational and department-related change initiatives, programmes and projects taking into account best practice and standards in the business environment.
Health, Safety, Security & Environment
Ensure compliance to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the department to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude.
Related Assignments
Perform any other duties which the line manager may require to be carried out.
Skills
- PHD or Master’s in engineering or a Bachelor’s degree with membership of a Chartered institute or Engineering body.
- 15 - 20 years’ experience of relevant experience
- Experience with OEM or Well -known Engineering firm or as part of the Engineering Centre of Excellence in large Generation or O&G organizations
- Strong skills in critical thinking, decision making, problem solving, and attention to detail
- Proven success in improving equipment/plant reliability
- Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-site, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
- Extensive experience and know-how of techno-commercial aspects
- Awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environment Management System Principles.
- Good relationship building skills
- Experience of performance management and monitoring
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
- Ability to take decisions and operate in ambiguity
- Thorough understanding of the business value chain
