Job Description
To provide adequate scheduled, planned and unplanned technical support. To drive continuous improvement by providing new and optimised instrumentation and control solutions.
- Ensure optimum availability and safe utilisation of the plant by effective management of the DCS.
- Ensure any deficiencies are identified and addressed through development plans.
- Engineering, implementation and commissioning of plant improvements that require modification of the DCS system in line with the NOMAC modification / change management process.
- Providing DCS technical support on a daily basis to the operations and maintenance team (fault diagnosis, rectification and improvement).
- Setting the engineering standards to ensure plant compliance with statutory and mandatory requirements in terms of process safety for DCS and process control issues in line with NOMAC procedures.
- Program PLCs, DCS
- Support re-commissioning activities and return to service activities.
- Take the lead on the development and implementation of the DCS Management Process. This will include the following; System administration, access control and security, system backup and disaster recovery, change control, cyber security and alarm management
- Develop procedure and system acceptable to NOMAC for application, review, authorisation, implementation, management, and reporting, safe removal of simulations within the plant control system.
- Coach / develop others not involved in DCS Engineering
- Participate in the review of operational parameters, providing specialist support in approval & instituting control changes to optimize the plant operation.
- Review DCS equipment preventive maintenance program.
- Resolving and responding to technical queries required to control the plant.
- Ensure and audit control and protection systems to ensure adherence to approved design and to protect the assets of the plant.
- Evaluate DCS integrity.
Skills
- BSc in Electrical / Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering / BTech in Electronic Engineering
- At least 3 years' relevant experience
- Experience in power plants
- In depth understanding of process control, process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams
- In-depth knowledge of automation consisting of PLC, DCS, HMI, data networks, fieldbus systems, process Instrumentation and control valves as well as related C&I standards
- Vendor specific automation equipment programming and / or other C&I software will be an added advantage
