Engineering Manager - CSP, UAE

Job Description

This role is for Concentrated Solar Power

 

Ensure best performance of the plant. Provide technical guidance to ensure maximum quality, continuous improvement and achievement of plant operational targets such as performance, cost and reliability.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

  • Ensure organization of plant operations and analysis in such a way that work is carried out to the required standard with minimum risk to staff, machine, and materials, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards always.
  • Take a proactive approach to safety and report ensure that all risks, incidents, and near misses are reported and acted upon.
  • Adhere to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental procedures, instructions and controls so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed
  • Continuous improvement on the Process Safety

People Management

  • Help to promote a team culture of career development and progression for your direct reports by having regular performance meetings to assess the current and future role
  • Regularly assess teams competency in relation to their role – where needed provide assistance, guidance and training
  • Manage the effective achievement of the team’s objectives through setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing the team and providing formal and informal feedback to maximize overall performance, engagement and motivation.

Operation and Maintenance

1) During start-up and commissioning phase:

  • Participate in plant start-up and commissioning activities, raise punch list items and warranty claims as appropriate. Attend training programme sessions. Learn, support and assist in the continuous improvement of HSSEQ policies and procedures. Review vendors’ documents, O&M manuals and spare parts lists.
  • Lead development of plant inspection plan.
  • Put in place the necessary tools and mechanisms for the adequate plant performance monitoring and improvement.
  • Lead the implementation of the necessary systems from IT perspective including but DCS and PASS.
  • Participate in the CMMS development and implementation.
  • For all parts/services identified required and not to be provided by the EPC contractor, launch call for tenders for goods & services procurement for all Plant Departments and place relevant orders. Supervise supplier and Contractors mobilisation and goods delivery.
  • Support training plan development and implementation, coordinate Engineering training programme sessions.
  • Follow up on budget execution and participate in plant budget preparation
  • Support O&M Design Review (i.e. accessibility, redundancy, automatisms, etc.)
  • Monitor and supervise commissioning and performance tests.
  • Other duties as required by the Plant General Manager.

2) During operational phase:

  • Look after the performance of the plant, identifying the root cause behind gaps in terms of performance when compared to the plant expectations, and identifying potential improvements (i.e. plant and systems efficiency, parasitic energy consumption, cleaning strategies, water consumptions, etc.).
  • Review and optimize plant operational and maintenance strategies.
  • Reduce operation cost.
  • Optimize the assets availability and reliability.
  • Identify and provide suggestions where plant improvements and modifications can improve the plant safety, operation and performance
  • Provide technical support to operation and maintenance teams for the resolution of incidents and the planning of O&M activities across all disciplines (process, mechanical, electrical, I&C, DCS and IT).
  • Manage plant integrity and inspection plan in coordination with operation and maintenance teams.
  • Lead the maintenance and supervision of the DCS, PASS and IT systems.
  • Track and control the liquidated damages and incentives.
  • Support in RCA, lesson learnt and mitigations action Plans
  • Support in review and guidance of outage planning and optimization
  • Support the implementation of the Company’s Reliability of Supply Framework
  • Develop technical documentation.
  • Lead Management of Change strategy.
  • Contribute to supply chain required activities such as the development of scope of work and the technical validation of proposals.
  • Other duties as required by the Plant General Manager.

Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/master’s degree or equivalent with minimum 10 years of working experience in CSP and Power plants
  • Proven experience in the design and O&M of CSP plants
  • Familiarized with the methodologies and CSP and PV performance modelling tools

Skills:

  • Highly proactive and self-motivated, capable of handling multiple tasks.
  • Team player, good interpersonal skills for subordinates development, team building and conflict resolution.
  • Proficient with PC software’s, performance and DCS applications. Familiar with CMMS, able to write technical reports and procedures.
  • Extensive leadership experience
  • Good technical/commercial writing skills
  • Result-Oriented
  • Good knowledge of diverse sources of in-depth technical expertise both internally (within NOMAC) and externally (vendors, engineering companies, ...)
  • Sound analytical skills required to identify common technical issues and opportunities across the fleet.
  • The ability to translate a complex technical issue in clear management language.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus
