Job Description

Purpose of the Job

  • Lead the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of the Human and Organizational Performance (HOPs) program to drive safety, productivity, and operational excellence.
  • Establish a culture that emphasizes the importance of everyone in maintaining and enhancing safety and performance.
  • Facilitate programs that enhance human performance, decrease incidents, and ensure a robust safety culture.

Reporting Line 

The Human Performance (HOPs), People-Based Safety, and Safety Differently will report to the Head of HOP & BBS/Head of HSSE Operations/Head of HSSE Construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HOPs strategies, initiatives, interventions, training, and communications aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Conduct evaluations to identify opportunities to enhance human performance.
  • Analyze data to gain insights into performance gaps and areas of focus.
  • Design solutions to improve individual, team, and organizational capabilities creating safe outcomes.
  • Monitor and measure effectiveness of HOPs initiatives.
  • Coach leaders on integrating HOPs principles into their management practices.
  • Promote continuous learning and a culture of care.
  • Ensure alignment of HOPs initiatives with policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Maintain expertise by engaging with latest research, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to integrate HOPs into critical work processes.
  • Lead, develop, and support the HOPs team.

Strategy & Plans

  • Translate organizational objectives into HOPs strategies and plans.
  • Design and execute interventions using appropriate HOPs methodologies.
  • Customize initiatives to address specific needs and opportunities.
  • Secure engagement and participation from leaders and employees.
  • Equip teams to sustain improvements independently.


Technical Services and Guidance

  • Provide expertise and guidance in the development and management of HOPs and safety initiatives.
  • Facilitate technical evaluations of incidents, ensuring learnings are integrated into future plans and strategies.
  • Ensure technical resources, documentation, and tools are developed, maintained, and accessible.
  • Engage with external technical entities to ensure ongoing internal technical development and alignment with industry standards.
  • Ensure technical compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and organizational policies.

HSSE Management Systems 

  • Monitor and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the BUs HSSE management systems and ensure they conform to ACWA Power standards, HSSE legal requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Contribute to the development of the HSSE & Process Safety Corporate Systems.
  • HSSE Management, Monitoring, and Reporting
  • Ensure that the Human Performance and Operational Practices (HOPs) initiatives and programs are embedded and implemented within the GEOs and countries/clusters.
  • Managing its development, implementation, and consistent application across all levels.
  • Employ monitoring systems that thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness, reach, and impact of Human Performance and Operational Practices, utilizing data to ensure initiatives are achieving their intended outcomes and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Develop and manage transparent and regular reporting protocols, providing detailed insights into the status, achievements, and challenges of the HOPs initiatives to internal stakeholders and, where applicable, external parties.
  • Oversee the compliance of HOPs initiatives with relevant organizational policies, legal regulations, and industry standards, ensuring that any discrepancies or issues are identified, addressed, and reported promptly.
  • Develop mechanisms to facilitate ongoing feedback from various levels within the organization and ensure that this feedback is systematically integrated into the continuous improvement of HOPs initiatives and strategies.
    Alignment, Collaboration and Influence
    Conduct evaluations to identify performance gaps using various data collection methods.
  • Leverage data and analytics to gain insights and diagnose root causes.
  • Assess effectiveness of HOPs initiatives using leading and lagging indicators.
  • Identify risks, barriers, and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to optimize human performance.
  • Conduct evaluations to identify performance gaps using various data collection methods.
  • Leverage data and analytics to gain insights and diagnose root causes.
  • Assess effectiveness of HOPs initiatives using leading and lagging indicators.
  • Identify risks, barriers, and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to optimize human performance.
    Team Management 
    Lead, motivate, develop, and support the HOPs team.
  • Set clear objectives, monitor progress, and provide feedback.
  • Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the team.

Policies, Processes, Systems & Procedures

  • Develop, implement, and oversee policies, processes, systems, and procedures ensuring alignment with HOPs and safety objectives.
  • Ensure organizational-wide understanding, adherence, and ownership of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Continually review and enhance policies and procedures, ensuring they remain effective, relevant, and compliant.
  • Establish a robust system that accurately tracks, reports, and manages compliance and adherence to established procedures.
  • Ensure policies and procedures prioritize and enhance human performance and safety and are adaptable to change and evolution.
    Continuous Improvement
    Conduct evaluations to identify performance gaps using various data collection methods.
  • Leverage data and analytics to gain insights and diagnose root causes.
  • Assess effectiveness of HOPs initiatives using leading and lagging indicators.
  • Identify risks, barriers, and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to optimize human performance.

  • Exhibit exemplary leadership, advocating for the importance of human performance and safety.
  • Ensure leadership practices encourage openness, learning, and empowerment at all organizational levels.
  • Engage with other leaders, ensuring they are equipped and empowered to drive safety and performance within their respective areas.
  • Ensure own continuous professional development, remaining informed and engaged with industry developments and leadership practices.
  • Foster a leadership style that is inclusive, adaptable, and aligned with the principles of HOPs, People-Based Safety, and Safety Differently.

Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, Organizational Development or related field.
  • Lvl 6 Diploma or equivalent from recognized institution in HSSE.
  • Min 5+ years' experience in human performance, BBS or safety differently (new view)
  • Certification in human performance improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of data analysis, learning technologies, and performance metrics
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities
  • Passion for improving human capabilities and enabling organizational success.


Minimum Experience

10+ years in human performance and driving safe outcomes.

  • In-depth understanding of human performance, safety principles, and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
