Training Engineer

Job Description

The Training Engineer has the overall responsibility to educate, train, and coach employees on all technical aspects of our Operations and Maintenance activities covering all technologies. The purpose of the role is to ensure technical competencies and knowledge of our Field Operations and Maintenance staff are developed to International standards and employees are qualified, tested, and audited as per global market standards. The aim of role is to also create a continuous learning culture through the utilization Mishkaty and other blended ways of delivery.

The role would be responsible over a geographical location that would include multiple powerplants. This may include the same technology or diverse technologies. This may include the same technology or diverse technologies. The person would also act as a Champion for one of our key Technologies across the fleet.

Policy, Plans and Budgets

  • Ensure all Technical and Functional Skills Learning and Development activities comply with the BU O&M and Group policies.
  • Develop a clear plan of activities by population, technology and identified learning needs to meet Business and Individual needs.
  • Contribute to the development of budgets and resources required to deliver the Technical and Regional learning needs for the region.
  • Identify KPIs for technical performance measurements for follow up and communication
  • Monitor KPIs relevant to learning, development, and assessment of technical performance
  • Execute all health and safety training in person and through third parties
  • Execute all compliance learning and development

Training Needs Analysis and Delivery of Learning Activities

  • Determine technical needs by conducting analysis of needs and specific skill or knowledge gaps.
  • Build relationships with the business as a Talent Business Partner in addressing current technical needs and future anticipation of technical and mandatory/compliance needs.
  • Manage employee technical qualifications as per their technology
  • Manage & execute Technical Qualification Pathways for main positions within all technologies and ensure a consistent structure and application is across NOMAC.
  • Monitor process and OJT material to ensure TQP are applied as per quality content.
  • Engage with PGMs and O&M Managers on all aspects of technical qualifications & technical training
  • Manage the utilization of SMEs as internal instructors/mentors to create technical learning transfer of knowledge and experience to other team members
  • Manage and develop technical training programs as part of qualifications or other journeys based on NOMAC plants’ needs in the division
  • Establish processes to monitor results of training participants and collect feedback on training to determine effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assess and partner with any 3rd party in designing and delivering specialized training.
  • Select and manage resources, including working with both internal employees and training vendors to develop and deliver training.

Mishkaty

  • Coordinate with Senior Training Engineer to set up learning paths on Mishkaty, creates reports, and records attendance of employees on training
  • Administer all learning related initiatives through Mishkaty
  • Communicate with the business on the adoption measures of Mishkaty

Technical-Functional Skills

  • Identify the technical gaps of employee through assessment or needs analysis
  • Provide calendar of technical training common across multiple plant needs
  • Identify learning needs outside of the technical qualification programs
  • Ensure the proper certification is provided to the different professions – forklift, etc.
  • Coordinate administratively the technical training requirements within scope

Reporting

  • Provide reporting to the Business and Talent on progress, plans, and KPIs
  • Align reporting with Mishkaty records and data gathering of report data

Governance

  • Contribute to policy and procedures relevant to TQP or technical training
  • Audit plant teams on their adherence to policy and procedure guidelines relevant to TQP and technical training

Training Delivery

  • Follow up on employee and trainee on-job training and assess their performance
  • Follow up and follow through on the training progress of trainees in terms of their performance towards their learning programs
  • Deliver technical training programs and organize those of the Training Engineers.
  • Deliver technical training that is blended in nature to follow the 70/20/10 adult learning model
  • Develop and deliver a corporate Technical Training Calendar for all powerplants
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for employees as well as to the Technical Training Engineers.
  • Create training material including outlines, text, handouts, and exercises for technical trainings
  • Collaborate with project and business subject matter experts to develop new training content or revise existing training content for system-based technology training
  • Create training content utilizing various techniques, such as PowerPoint presentations, Facilitator and Participant Guides, eLearning courses, videos, simulations, etc.
  • Facilitate and deliver Instructor Led Training (ILT) courses to impacted stakeholders, including executing pre and post-training communications and activities, and managing class logistics
  • Ensure alternative training techniques are delivered efficiently and effectively
  • Utilize the Mishkaty (LMS) to record and archive attendee attendance, completion of training and provide reporting

  • Coordinate with Young Talent Lead on developing young talent on their career pathways
  • Ensure knowledge and performance assessments are a key criterion within any career growth promotion within the business.
  • Hold career discussions with young talent on their training and development

Onboarding

  • Ensure that every technology has an onboarding program from a new entrant to the field
  • Ensure that within the first 90 days of joining, an employee in Nomac has received the relevant level of learning about the business and their powerplant.
  • Track on-the-job learning within the first 90 days within the business

Skills

Essential

  • 10 years’ experience in technical training development in a multinational environment. 8 years in Power/Desalination industry in technical training role.
  • Gulf or Middle East experience in O&M
  • Certification as a Trainer or experienced in designing and delivering training.

Desired

  • Certification as a Trainer.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is preferable.
  • SAP working knowledge is preferred.
  • ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 awareness/working knowledge is preferred.
  • Knowledge in safety, environment training preferred.

Required Skills

  • Subject matter expert in 1 area of operation and maintenance of powerplants.
  • Ability to design and deliver training, to explain abstract concepts to people from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environment Management system principles
  • Should be able to deliver information to Engineers, Supervisors, and technicians.
  • Experience in developing ability tests and technical-based assessments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills across all levels of the business
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must be able to prepare technical training manuals.
  • Digitally savvy, expert in PowerPoint, has used an LMS and other online learning resources
  • Must have designed personal development plans in an operational environment
  • Ability to connect with people to drive successful relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment across geographies
